Dodecanese
Dodecanese meaning 12 islands, includes the well known Rhodes and Kos, but also the lesser known Symi, Tilos, Nisyros, Astipalea, Lipsi and more are set between the Cyclades group and the Turkish Turquoise coast.
The prevailing Summer wind are North Westerly. The Meltemi starts to show sporadically in June but builds in July through September reaching between force 4-6 and occasionally force 7 but that doesn’t last long. At it’s height the Meltemi can help produce short steep seas which are uncomfortable.
Of all the Dodecanese islands, Rhodes and Kos are the most popular charter sailing holiday starting points.
